Varec Biogas™ Gas Control Equipment
SAFE GAS CONTROL, EASY MAINTENANCE
Varec Biogas™ gas control equipment safely moves gas through piping systems. This equipment prevents damage to valves from accidental reversal of gas flow, pressure, or explosions. Flame elements can be easily removed, separated, and cleaned in the field.
Your maintenance just got easier!
THE PROBLEM
Biogas serves as an efficient alternative fuel source. In many wastewater treatment facilities when anaerobic digestion is used for biosolids treatment, the biogas produced is used to maintain the digesters at their optimal operating temperature of 100°F.
In bigger plants, biogas is used for power or sold to utilities.
THE OVIVO SOLUTION
Biogas is flammable and requires careful handling. Flame arresters should be installed upstream of any ignition sources. Piping must be correctly sized based on gas production to minimize pressure drop. Installing condensate traps, sediment traps, and drip traps at low points in the piping will prevent moisture and sediment buildup that can cause process disruptions over time if left unchecked.
PRODUCT OFFERING
VAREC BIOGAS™ 59 IN-LINE DETONATION FLAME ARRESTER
The Varec Biogas™ 59 In-Line Detonation Flame Arrester is tested for field conditions not mandated by existing standards, including momentum impulse (long-run stable detonation), thermal failure, and re-ignition of downstream unburned gases, providing maximum protection against all modes of flame propagation.
FEATURES
- Tested in accordance with USCG CFR 154
- Maximum allowable pressure to 150 psig (1 mPa)
- Bidirectional flow
- Installed in either horizontal or vertical piping
- Flame element easily removed, separated, and cleaned in the field
VAREC BIOGAS™ 211 LOW PRESSURE CHECK VALVE
The Varec Biogas™ 211 Low Pressure Check Valve is ideal for low pressure gas control lines to prevent reversal of flow. The check valve is normally installed downstream of (a) meters, (b) regulators, or (c) other gas control devices that could be damaged by an accidental reversal of gas flow, pressure, or explosion shock waves. This valve is found in systems where gas flow between multiple digesters or gas holders must be prevented. It is used to prevent gas flow reversal between several pieces of equipment installed in parallel.

- 250 psig pressure rating
VAREC BIOGAS™ 231 GAS/FOAM SEPARATOR
The Varec Biogas™ 231 Gas/Foam Separator uses piping systems to remove foam caused by agitation from the digester discharge gas. To protect downstream equipment from corrosion or clogging, the foam must be dispersed and collected. The 231 Gas/Foam Separator does just that.
FEATURES
- Stainless-steel construction
- Continuous spray wash system

- Large reservoir with baffle
VAREC BIOGAS™ 233 CONDENSATE AND SEDIMENT TRAP
The Varec Biogas™ 233 Condensate and Sediment Trap removes large volumes of condensed water from gas that has cooled when exiting the digester. Sediment entrained in the gas will drop out and accumulate into the trap, protecting downstream equipment from damage caused by solids.
FEATURES
- Large reservoir capacity

- 25 psi (172.5 kPa) working pressure
VAREC BIOGAS™ 245 AUTOMATIC DRIP TRAP
The Varec Biogas™ 245 Automatic Drip Trap continuously collects and safely removes condensate from low points in filtered gas piping systems, preventing dirt and particulates from clogging gas flow and increasing pressure drop. Continuous removal of condensate from the system protects piping and equipment from possible damage caused by corrosion and water hammer.
FEATURES
- Corrosion-resistant aluminum construction
- Automatic float-operated needle valve
- 2-quart capacity
- 25 psig (172.5 kPa) working pressure
VAREC BIOGAS™ 246 SERIES LOW PRESSURE MANUAL DRIP TRAP
The Varec Biogas™ 246 Series Low Pressure Manual Drip Trap manually collects and safely removes condensate from gas. Condensate removal from gas piping systems protects piping and other equipment from damage caused by corrosion or water hammer. This system can also lower the pressure drop caused by water lying in low spots in the pipe that restricts gas flow.

- Manual operation
VAREC BIOGAS™ 246AT LOW PRESSURE DRIP TRAP WITH ELECTRIC ACTUATOR
The Varec Biogas™ 246AT Low Pressure Drip Trap with Electric Actuator automatically and safely collects condensate from gas piping systems. This unit can be installed in confined spaces and Class 1, Divisions 1- or 2-rated areas. A control panel for remote operation of multiple electric actuated drip traps is available.
FEATURES
- 2.5-quart and 6-quart reservoir capacity
- Corrosion resistant aluminum construction
- Positive seal against gas escape
- Optional UL-approved control panel
VAREC BIOGAS™ 247AT HIGH PRESSURE DRIP TRAP WITH ELECTRIC ACTUATOR
The Varec Biogas™ 247AT High Pressure Drip Trap with Electric Actuator automatically collects and safely removes condensate from biogas with working pressures that top 100 psig (688 kPa). This system protects piping and other equipment from possible damage caused by corrosion or water hammer. It can also lower the pressure drop caused by water lying in low spots in the pipe that restricts gas flow.

VAREC BIOGAS™ 248 CONDENSATE ACCUMULATOR
The Varec Biogas™ 248 Condensate Accumulator stores a significant amount of condensate. Biogas is usually hot and saturated when it leaves the digester. It continues to cool as it goes through the piping system, causing water condensate to drop out. This system removes condensate from the biogas piping system to protect piping and other equipment from possible damage caused by corrosion or water hammer.
FEATURES

- Simple operation
- Optional sight glass and level switches
VAREC BIOGAS™ 386 BACK PRESSURE REGULATOR
The Varec Biogas™ 386 Back Pressure Regulator is used in low pressure gas systems. It normally operates closed and will open when the upstream pressure reaches the regulator’s predetermined settings. To control the flow of gas to the flare, it uses a large, spring-loaded diaphragm while relieving excess gas with minimal pressure drop. The pressure setting can easily be adjusted using the adjusting screw on top of the valve. An enclosed pointer provides a quick visual of the pressure.
FEATURES
- Available in 2-inch to 12-inch (50 mm to 300 mm) sizes
- Large diaphragm
- Spring-loaded
- Corrosion-resistant
- Optional three-way solenoid valve
VAREC BIOGAS™ 430 THERMAL OPERATED SHUT-OFF VALVE
The Varec Biogas™ 430 Thermal Operated Shut-off Valve is installed on lines leading to boilers, blowers, compressors, or other possible sources of combustion. Working in conjunction with a flame arrester, the shut-off valve protects low-pressure waste gas systems by shutting off the gas flow if a fire is burning in the piping system. When gas is no longer supplied at the source of combustion, the fire is extinguished.
FEATURES
- Fusible element and spring
