Varec Biogas™ Digester Gas Cleaning and Drying Equipment
ADVANCED GAS TREATMENT AND PURIFICATION
Varec Biogas™ has collaborated with GraniteFuel Engineering to provide comprehensive solutions for digester gas cleaning. GraniteFuel Engineering offers a broad range of technologies and equipment for advanced gas treatment and purification.
The systems are engineered to eliminate harmful constituents from the gas supply, enabling its use in boilers, engines, turbines, or pipeline injection applications. The standard scope includes skid-mounted hydrogen sulfide (H2S) removal systems (two vessels to be placed off-skid), moisture removal systems (including glycol chillers, to be placed off-skid), and blower systems with VFDs to maintain discharge pressure to the gas utilization equipment. Siloxane/VOC removal options are also available, featuring our regenerable media using temperature swing absorption or activated carbon media.
GraniteFuel also provides multiplex feed compressor systems for gas upgrading, which include staged membrane systems. All systems are equipped with controls to ensure efficient and seamless operation.
THE PROBLEM
Moisture is one of the most damaging components of biogas, as it leads to excessive corrosion. It can accumulate in piping systems, causing steep pressure drops and unnecessary venting of digester gas.
Another corrosive element in biogas is hydrogen sulfide (H2S), the primary cause of odor issues at plants. H2S needs to be removed from biogas so that it can be effectively used as a fuel source for boilers and cogeneration units.
Particulate matter such as siloxane, a common additive to everyday household items, also must be removed. If not, over time, equipment efficiency wanes, operating costs increase, and expensive equipment can fail.
THE OVIVO SOLUTION
Our innovative systems effectively remove H2S, chill and dry the gas, and remove siloxane, making your process more efficient, decreasing operating costs, and preventing failure of expensive equipment.
PRODUCT OFFERING
H2S REMOVAL
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) removal is one of the key steps when biogas is recovered and used to run engines to generate electricity. To ensure a long engine life, water and harmful contaminants must be removed before the gas is burned in the engine.
VAREC BIOGAS™ 235 GAS PURIFIER
Biogas produced in anaerobic digesters, lagoons, and municipal landfills contain small amounts of hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Although the total percentage of H2S in biogas is small, it can corrode metals and damage equipment. This can lead to maintenance and operational headaches, especially in plants where biogas is recovered to fuel engine generators or boilers.
H2S is also a toxic air pollutant that can create severe odors. Stringent regulations restricting sulfur emissions have made removing sulfur compounds increasingly important.
The Varec Biogas™ 235 Gas Purifier is a cost-effective method for H2S removal.
FEATURES
- Double compartment
- Heavy steel construction
- Drain connections
- Gas tight cover seal
- Optional continuous regeneration
VAREC BIOGAS™ 236 GAS PURIFIER
Biogas is produced in anaerobic digesters, lagoons, and municipal landfills, generated by the anaerobic digestion of organic solids that contain small amounts of hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Biogas is an effective alternate source of energy to fuel engine generators or boilers. The rising cost of fuel makes using biogas beneficial to wastewater treatment plants.
The Varec Biogas™ 236 Gas Purifier uses a bed of iron sponge as the active media for H2S removal. During the gas purification process, H2S is removed by passing sour gas through the purifier.
FEATURES
- NFPA 820-approved and flame-retardant fiberglass construction
- Insulation option available for outdoor installation
- Media removal system available
VAREC BIOGAS™ 237 GAS CHILLER DRYING SYSTEM
Moisture is one of the most damaging components of biogas, as it leads to excessive corrosion. It can accumulate in piping systems, causing steep pressure drops and unnecessary venting of digester gas.
The Varec Biogas™ 237 Gas Chiller Drying System is designed for use in biogas conditioning systems to protect downstream equipment from the harmful effects of moisture.
FEATURES
- Automatic turnkey control
- Automatic liquid drain using drip traps or condensate accumulators
- Skid-mounted option to reduce installation costs and operational assurance
