The ELOVAC® system removes phosphate and prevents struvite scaling with a compact, skid-mounted design. This innovative, plug-and-play solution reduces phosphorus (PO4-P) return loads to the head of the plant with over 90% PO4-P removal and improves dewatering—all while capturing additional biogas and reducing the plant’s carbon footprint.
This system also reduces sludge hauling and polymer consumption costs.
THE PROBLEM
Struvite scaling and high phosphorus return loads can significantly impact the efficiency and operational costs of wastewater treatment plants. Traditional methods to control these issues often involve high maintenance and operational costs, as well as environmental concerns.
THE OVIVO SOLUTION
The ELOVAC® system offers a compact and efficient solution for phosphate removal and struvite prevention. By reducing the phosphorus return load and improving dewatering, this vacuum-based system lowers sludge hauling and polymer consumption costs. Because it captures additional biogas, the energy-positive operation reduces the plant’s carbon footprint.
And because of the simplicity of the system, maintenance costs are lower and downtime is minimized.
HOW IT WORKS
The ELOVAC® is installed downstream of the digester and upstream of dewatering.
It continuously feeds sludge to the degassing reactor.
A vacuum pump extracts methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from the digested sludge, raising the pH in the reactor. The vacuumed gas enables an energy-positive operation by capturing additional biogas while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Magnesium chloride (MgCl2) is added to the digested sludge in the reactor. The higher pH results in struvite precipitation.
The degassed sludge with precipitated struvite is continuously discharged to dewatering.
